My interest in boating started when I was still in school. I don’t know why…but I have always been fascinated by the sea. I didn’t start boating until many years after I left school and started working. While my peers were upgrading to more expensive cars, I was scouting around for a used boat. Buying a used boat in Malaysia wasn’t exactly easy. First, it took me more than a year to find the boat I wanted. Second, I had to pay in cash as there was no financing available for boats. I finally got myself a secondhand 20′ 150hp walkaround sportfisher.
I had the sportfisher for at least 10 years before I decided to part with it. Like the saying, my two happiest moments were, “when I purchase it” and ”when I sell it”. Don’t get me wrong, I had a good ten years with the boat. However, I found owning a boat like the Bayliner Trophy was too time-consuming, expensive and not eco-friendly. It was just taking too much out of me.
There had been a lot of talk about kayak fishing about five ago and I had decided to do some research on the internet. I got immediately bitten by the kayak “bug”. A couple of months later I got myself a used Bic Tobago after some hard searching and have never looked back since then.
Then, in 2007, together with a windsurfer buddy, we started a company, Eco-Sports Unlimited Sdn Bhd, to promote eco-friendly water-based sports and activities. A year later, I left the corporate world and spent full time on our business.
A Kayak Fisher’s Log is a journal of my kayak fishing adventures around Malaysia.
That’s me!
